South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Recognized as one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa, the South Luangwa National Park is known for its high concentration of wildlife around the magnificent Luangwa River.

It is here, within the Park, on one of the most impressive oxbow lagoons that Chikunto Safari Lodge is located.
Surrounded by natural beauty and prolific wildlife guests at this small exclusive lodge can experience this unique
wilderness on foot, by boat, enjoy a day or night game drive, and spend evenings under the stars listening to the sounds of Africa.

Hosting only 12 guests at a time in luxury tents on raised decks overlooking a lagoon, Chikunto Safari Lodge can also be booked as an exclusive-use bush retreat. Adjoining each beautifully appointed en suite tent is an outdoor seating area. The main lodge is under thatch with wide decks and a salt-water swimming pool. The nightly campfire is a popular meeting place where exciting experiences are recounted and shared. At the end of the day enjoy the spectacle of the star-studded skies from the sky-deck.

The South Luangwa Park is famous for its high concentration of leopard and endemic Thorneycroft’s giraffe, large herds of buffalo, elephants, pods of hippo and incredible birdlife along the riverine vegetation and in the miombo woodlands. From February through April, in the lush ‘Emerald Season’, guests can explore the meandering Luangwa River by boat. During the drier months walking safaris with expert guides, or a game drive further into this vast wilderness area, are the best way to experience this untamed part of Africa.
